Gibson Firebird I ( 1963 - 1969 )

The Gibson firebird electric guitar is a combination between fender style guitars and the gibson explorers . In early 60s gibson firebirds were built to compete with fender electric guitars which at that time were main stream guitars .

In 1963 gibson introduced the gibson firebird I , It had a reverse body shape , one humbucking pick up , no vibrato ,dot inlaid unbound fingerboard and a bar bridge-tailpiece , the firebird I at that time was the least expensive and was considered the economy model .

In mid 1965 gibson redesigned the gibson firebird I electric guitar with a non reversed body shape ( see pic) , 2/ p90 pickups and were discontinued in 1969 .

Gibson J-50

Gibson J-50 ( 1945 - prsent )

The gibson j-50 acoustic guitar along with its brother ( j-45 ) are probably the most succesful acoustic guitars that gibson ever produced , guitar players love them because they have a natural sweet and loud tone at a reasonable cost .

The body countours , sound and the dynamics of the j-45 and the gibson j-50 permit them to be fairly versatile " its an all around players guitar " you can play country western music , blues , folk , blue grass ......etc.

The gibson J-50 is the same guitar as the gibson J-45 accept for a natural top finish. The j-45 was introduced in 1942 in sunburst finish , in 1945 gibson made the same version of the j-45 but in nautural finish and called them the gibson j-50 .

 In 1945 the gibson j-50 had a natural top finish , double bound top , round shoulders dreadnought shape ,mahogany back and sides ,tear drop pickguard , dot fingerboard inlays and gold logos .

In 1955 the j-50 guitars had larger pointed pickguards ( see pic ) , some had triple bound tops , and an additional 20th fret was added .

In 1968 some had white pickguards with gibson logos and in 1969 they had square shoulders .

Discontinued in 1985 , reintroduced in 1990 till 1995 , reintroduced again in 1999 .

Gibson Johnny Smith

Gibson Johnny Smith Guitar ( 1961-1989 )

During the 50s Johnny Smith used d'angelico guitars then became a guild endorser , however he did not like the guitar, in 1960 johnny smith turned his loyalty to gibson and offered an

ultimatum so to speak , he told gibson that he would be delighted to sign a contract to use his name but if the guitar does not meet his standards the deal is off .

In late 1960 two sample guitars were built according to johnny smiths' specs , he wanted a fully acoustic archtop with a suspended floating pickup . Gibson decided to use the mini humbucker (PU-120) .

The johnny smith guitar was the first gibson guitar to be fitted with this pick up , it was mounted at the very end of the neck .

In early 1961 one of the 2 sample guitars were sent to johnny smith , he made few minor changes and immediatly approved them . In 1961 the Gibson johnny smith guitar was introduced at $795 ( Gibson's most expensive guitar at the time ) along side with the popular barney kessel guitar .
 
 The guitar was an archtop guitar , had a single rounded cutaway ,one floating mini humbucking pickup, gold hardware , multiple binding front and back , L-5 style tailpiece with model name , split-block fingerboard inlays and were made in natural or sunburst finishes .

In 1963 to 1989 they also introduced the gibson johnny smith double ( basically the same guitar but with 2 humbucking pickups , all johnny smith guitars were discontinued in 1989 . ( Known also as the Gibson JS model )

Gibson BB King

Gibson BB King Custom ( 1980 -1988 )

BB King has marveled many guitar players throughout the years with his short hard bending blues licks and scorching blues chops that can be imitated but not duplicated .

Gibson owes a great deal of their success on their es models to the blues man , since the late 50s and 60s, bb king has played on numerous es gibson guitars ( es-5, es-335, ...etc )

thus giving them a great deal of exposure until both gibson and bb king decided to produce an official line of gibson electric guitars bearing the bb king name .

In 1980 Gibson Introduced the gibson bb king custom , it had the lucille logo on the peghead , 2 pick ups , gold plated parts , vari tone switch and were made in ebony or cherry finishes .

Gibson stopped production in 1988 . From then on the guitar was renamed bb king lucille.


Gibson BB King Lucille ( 1988 - present )

In 1988 to present gibson continues production on the bb king lucille which was called bb king custom from 1980 to 88 . Still has the same features , lucille on peghead , vari tone ,multibound , 2 pickups and gold plated parts .

At the beginning these guitars were also made in ebony and cherry color and then started adding more colors such as black.


Gibson BB King Standard ( 1980-1985 )

In 1980 Gibson also introduced the bb king standard , which had the same features like the gibson lucille but with stereo electronics and chrome plated parts instead of gold hardware.

In 1985 The gibson bb king standard production ended . They came in 2 colors - " cherry or ebony ".

 Note : Gibson also introduced the BB King ES-335 "Lucille" guitar in 2006 , only a limited edition of 80 guitars were made and are valued today ( 2017 ) at $4900 to $5800.

Gibson EBS-1250 & EBSF-1250 Double Neck

Double Neck Guitar/Bass

In the early 60s gibson introduced their first effects pedal under a company called maestro which was a gibson subsidiary .
This pedal was called the FZ-1 fuzz tone pedal , it was an instant success and praised by many electric guitar players because of its
nasty fuzzy tone which was used by the rolling stones and many other 60s rock and roll bands back then .
In 1962 , gibson offered the same fuzz effect as a built in feature in the newly introduced gibson EBSF-1250 double neck bass/guitar
which was the third double neck gibson model guitar after the Eds-1275 & the gibson Ems-1235 .
The ebsf-1250 double bass is a combination of a gibson sg standard six string guitar and a eb-3 electric bass ,
it has an sg shape solid mahogany body, rosewood fingerboards , a built in fuzztone which could be used for the bass and guitar neck , the bass section has 2 eb-3 pickups and the guitar section has 2 humbucking pickups .
The guitar neck is fitted with an sg standard type neck ( 24-3/4" scale ) and the bass neck has an eb-3 neck ( 30-1/2" scale ) , they were available in cherry ,sunburst ,white and black finishes .
( the ebsf-1250 double bass/guitar was also very similar to the gibson eds-1250 double neck guitar except for the built in fuzz tone and the six string bass neck instead of a twelve string guitar upper neck )
in 1964-65 gibson removed the fuzz tone and the model was redesigned as the gibson EBS-1250 until 1970 , these gibson double neck guitars are extremely rare ( under 30 guitars made ).

Gibson SG Standard 120th Anniversary – Etune

Pertamakali mencoba gitar ini, saya seolah merasa sebagai pria yang paling beruntung. Gibson SG Standard 120th Anniversary sangat mewakili kebutuhan sound bagi gitaris rock. Seolah mengeluarkan sinyal positif pembangkit aura, setiap suara yang dihasilkan sungguh menakjubkan.

Intonasi yang cukup jelas dengan definisi sound yang cukup rapat. Claritynya oke banget.  Profile neck khas 60s (slim) menghasilkan Playability yang sangat nyaman ditelapak tangan, membuat saya harus berlama-lama memainkan gitar ini. Jari-jemari terus berselancar untuk menjelajahi mulai dari fret pertama hingga fret akhir (22). Dan itu bisa berjalan dengan mulus pasalnya body shapenya adalah Double cutaway, sehingga memudahkan menjangkau pada not-not atas.

Coba mainkan satu hits dari band AC/DC, berjudul Highway to Hell. Waow.., berasa banget seperti Angus Young rasanya.

Membandingkan, seperti yang sudah saya pernah coba dibeberapa gitar keluaran Gibson, terutama pada seri SG. Memang gitar seri ini diciptakan dengan sound yang berbeda dibanding varian lainnya seperti Les Paul. SG selalu identik dengan sound rock.

Dua buah pickup pada neck dan bridge, 490R dan 498T cukup mengakomodir kebutuhan para rocker. Selain itu, Gibson SG mempunyai body yang lebih ramping. Menurut saya cukup versatile.

Ada yang berbeda pada gitar Gibson SG Standard 120th Anniversary – Etune bila dibandingkan dengan seri SG standard lainnya. Pada Tuning pegs (dryer), SG Standard Annivesary 120th menggunakan Min-ETune automated robot tuners. Jadi Tuning peg gitar ini bisa nyetem secara otomatis (berputar sendiri) bila terdapat nada yang terdengar fals. Keren.! (lihat di foto). Penampakannya pun tetap terlihat klasik dengan knob button model vintage khas Kluson.

Penggunaanya cukup mudah, Etune bisa anda fungsikan cukup dengan menekan tombol on-of selama 2 detik. Bila ingin nyetem manual, lakukan sebaliknya. Bila daya habis, anda cukup mengisinya ulang dengan adaptor yang sudah tersedia (included) saat anda membeli gitar ini.

Pada fretboard ke 12 disematkan logo 120th Anniversary. Artinya menandakan gitar ini dibuat dan dikeluarkan secara khusus dengan jumlah yang limited.

Secara konfigurasi elektronik maupun sparepart lainnya, Gibson SG Standard 120th Anniversary – Etune sama seperti seri standard lainnya. Menggunakan 4 buah potensio sebagai 2 x volume dan 2 x tone, serta 1 buah pickup selector (toggle switch).

Begitu juga dengan bridge, menggunakan Tailpiece stopbar dan Tune O Matic saddle. Untuk material pendukung lainnya, khas Gibson, body dan neck menggunakan kayu Mahogany serta Rosewood pada papan neck (fingerboard) dengan menggunakan konstruksi set-in neck join. Finishingnya legendaris banget gan.., Heritage Cherry.

Kesimpulan, Gibson SG Standard 120th Anniversary – Etune sangat layak untuk anda miliki. Harganya? di angka 20jt-an. Cari informasinya di toko musik kota anda.
